For 2000 years or more roses have been the universal symbol of beauty and love. They are frequently used for special occasions –weddings, birthdays and funerals – firstly for their beauty and perfume - but also as a symbol for creating or recalling very special memories.
Over the centuries roses have also been used in very practical ways. They are the basis of potpourris and tussie mussies which added sweet perfume to the home and a wish for health and happiness. The perfume of roses has been used to scent oils and water since early Greek and Roman times. Rosehips have proven health benefits and teas and culinary treasures have evolved over the years. Roses are always featured in art, craft and floral design.
Here we present some ideas for using roses in a practical way.
